FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can I arrive at the hotel before camp starts or leave later? Yes, based on the hotels space availability. (prices subject to change) Weekend rate (Fri./Sat.): $145 (tax included) per room
Weekday rate (Sun. -Thur.): $89 (tax included) per room
Can I stay at another hotel? Yes, however you must make your own reservations. The Rio and the Palms are across the street from the Gold Coast. The Rio reservation number is 1-888-746-7482, and the Palms is 1-866-942-7770
Can you get me a roommate? Sorry, no. We attempted this in the past and it was not very successful. It is very difficult to share a room with someone you do not know.
What type of people attend? We have adult singles and couples ranging in age from 18 to 88.
How do I get the most out of my group class? Stay in the level that you are comfortable with. If you try to take an advanced class and do not know the basic figures, you will not get the most out of your class. Pace yourself during the camp. Feel free to sit down and listen to the instructor if you get tired. Sometimes, we learn a lot by watching and listening.
How are the classes taught? We have separate four rooms – one each for Beginning (Pre-Bronze), Intermediate I (Inter. Bronze), Intermediate II (Full Bronze), and Advanced (Silver or above) levels. Our rooms are very close together, so it’s quite easy to go from one classroom to another.
What level should I choose? If you know 4 figures or less, then you should start with the Beginning class. If you know 5 figures, you may want to try the Intermediate I class, if you know 10 figures you can try the Intermediate II class. If you know at least 13 figures, try the Advanced class.
Please keep in mind that this is only a guideline. Be sure to take other factors into consideration, including whether you learn fast or slow, and what are your goals for this camp. Learning a multitude of patterns is not the most important part of dancing. Remember that professionals practice their basics everyday!
How long are the classes? Each class is approximately 50 minutes. We begin our first class at 8am with a 90-minute lunch break starting at 1pm. We resume classes at 2:30pm and end classes at 6:20pm. On Thursday we finish one hour earlier, at 5:20pm, to prepare for the Grand Banquet.
Do I need a partner? No, both single men and single ladies attend. We encourage everyone to rotate partners, as this is a valueable learning tool. Remember, in order to be a good dancer you must be able to dance with a variety of partners.
Do couples have to change partners in class? We encourage you to change partners because this is a very important part of learning. Naturally, some couples come to the camp with the intention of dancing only with each other, and we respect your wishes if you want to stay together.
Where can we go dancing? Local ballroom dance events are constantly changing. For the most current information & recommendations we suggest that you contact your hotel’s concierge.
